Yes — private by design. Stay in Touch uses an offline-first architecture, meaning your relationship data lives on your device by default. There's no account required, no ads, and no analytics on your contacts, notes, or reminders. The app collects limited product analytics and diagnostics as described in our Privacy Policy. Your relationship data leaves your phone only when you explicitly create a backup, which goes to a location you choose rather than our servers.

Where is my data stored?

All your data — contacts, notes, reminders, and check-ins — is stored locally on your device by default. Nothing leaves your phone unless you explicitly choose to back it up. We don't have access to your data, and we don't store it on our servers.

Do I need to create an account?

Accepted Answer

There is no separate Stay in Touch account to create. Local features work offline without sign-in. Optional Google sign-in enables Google Drive backups and links your Google identity to subscription management and product analytics, as described in our Privacy Policy. Google Drive backups do not require Premium. Purchases and cancellations are handled through the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Can you see my contacts or notes?

No. We cannot see your contacts, notes, reminders, or any other data. Everything is stored locally on your device. We don't monitor, track, or analyze your relationship data. Even if you choose to back up to Google Drive, those backups are stored in your personal Google account, not ours.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

If you delete the app without backing up first, your local data will be removed from your device. That's why we recommend creating a backup before uninstalling. You can export your data as a file or upload it to Google Drive at any time. If you have a backup, you can restore it if you reinstall the app later.

Does Stay in Touch read my text messages?

No. Stay in Touch does not read, monitor, or access your text messages or call history. The app uses local notifications to remind you to reach out, but it doesn't track whether you actually send a message or make a call. You manually confirm check-ins when you've reached out to someone.

How do I import my contacts?

When you first open the app, you'll be prompted to grant contact permissions. Once granted, you can import contacts directly from your device's address book. The app will show you a list of your contacts, and you can select which ones you'd like to add to Stay in Touch. You can also manually add contacts if you prefer.

You can set a reminder for any contact with a custom frequency (like every 2 weeks, every month, etc.) and a custom start date. When it's time to check in, you'll get a notification. How do I add notes about someone?

You can add notes to any contact by opening their contact details page. Notes are perfect for remembering conversation topics, important details, or memories. You can also add notes when you confirm a check-in. All notes are searchable, so you can quickly find information about anyone.

Can I set different reminder frequencies for different people?

Absolutely! Each reminder is completely independent. You might check in with close family every week, friends every few weeks, and distant relatives every few months. Set whatever frequency feels right for each relationship.

What is a check-in?

A check-in is when you confirm that you've reached out to someone. When you get a reminder notification, you can mark it as checked in, which records the date and resets the reminder timer. You can also add a note about what you discussed. This creates a history of your interactions with each person.

Can I back up my data?

Yes! You can export a backup file on your device and share it via email or save it to cloud storage. You can also upload to your own Google Drive or enable free automatic backups after signing in with Google, choosing a 1-, 3-, or 5-day interval. The app checks whether a backup is due while you use it.

Premium removes the per-contact cap: you can have active contact reminders and active note reminders on as many contacts as you want. Free users can use both for up to two contacts at once; subscribers get unlimited contacts for both.

How do I manage my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through the store where you subscribed. You can view, modify, or cancel through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings. Changes generally take effect at the end of your current billing period.

First, make sure you've granted notification permissions to the app in your device settings. Also check that notifications aren't disabled for Stay in Touch in your phone's notification settings. If you're still not receiving notifications, try restarting the app or your device. You can always check your upcoming reminders in the app's home screen.

How do I restore from a backup?

To restore from a backup file, go to Settings > Backup & Restore, then select 'Restore from file' and choose your backup file. To restore from Google Drive, select 'Restore from Google Drive' and choose which backup to download. Note: Restoring will replace your current data, so make sure you want to proceed.
